Who gangs up on who?

If there’s a song apt to serve as the collective soundtrack of Filipinos, it should be Gloria Gaynor’s discotheque classic I Will Survive remixed with the defunct Eraserheads’ With A Smile.

For Filipinos have always been survivors because of their inherent predisposition to just laugh at the problems that come their way. Yes, Pinoys have a generally rose-colored view of life and a funny bone to match.

And no, no surgeon’s scalpel or dissecting kit is needed to find those funny bones or what genes make Filipinos tick.

While many may sigh or cry and pull their hair in anguish in the face of crisis after crisis like typhoon Yolanda, etc., the Filipinos' predisposition to smile and laugh is key to their keeping their sanity intact.

For example,  with the MRT and LRT trains breaking down with clockwork regularity because of improper maintenance, many Filipinos have taken to social media to bash Transportation Secretary Emilio Abaya, but also to make light of the problem.

From where we sit, Abaya richly deserves the bashing but not only for the MRT-LRT mess but also for  the car plates and driver’s licenses supply fiascos. But enough digression.

The point is just look at the picture above making the rounds of FB, Twitter and other social media platforms.  Who could think of suggesting that somebody install a zip line traversing the train routes so   commuters would have a “fun” and alternative ride in lieu of the MRT and LRT.

Only in the Windmills of a Filipino’s Mind can a meme like that hatch. And no lobotomy is needed to prove this. –End-
