Is
it just an urban legend: Getting an upgrade from economy to First Class just by
flirting or sweet-talking one’s way into it?
The
answer provided by budgettravel.com is a guarded “Yes” as it
explained that “it doesn’t hurt to try” by going into any situation “with an
open mind.”
If
that doesn’t help, a chocolate bar to the gate agent may just do the trick,
said travel advisor and the Points Guy blogger Brian Kelly.
"Gate
agents at the airport get berated all day long, and being nice and bribing
them, whether it's a box of chocolates or just being super-sweet, you'd be
surprised how much that still [counts for],” said Kelly.
“They
have a lot of say. Gate agents are in control of who gets what seats. There are
processes, and if coach is oversold and there are some business-class seats,
they can still absolutely move whomever they'd like up front."
While
it’s not that easy to score First Class or Business Class upgrades, Kelly said
being nice and chatty to harassed gate agent could get you one of the best
seats in Economy.
Hmmmm.
But what if you’re already on First Class? What little rewards could there be
for being a little nice to the cabin crew? –End-
