With Liberal Party presidential candidate
Mar Roxas still without a running mate in the 2016 elections, talk is rife that
he may yet try to woo Batangas Governor Vilma Santos to shore up his lackluster
showing in recent popularity surveys.
Ate Vi would be a good choice if all efforts
to convince survey frontrunner Sen. Grace Poe to be Mar's vice-presidential bet
ultimately fail.
The problem is that Ate Vi has already
rejected offers for her to run for higher office, saying that she still has
many things to do in her province.
But if Ate Vi can be made to change her
mind, would she be able to deliver to get enough votes for herself and at the
same time lift up Mar in the polling booths come Election Day?
With her show biz credentials and clean
record as Batangas governor, Ate Vi could get enough votes to catapult her to
the second highest elective position. But that would depend on who else is
running for VP. If it’s Chiz Escudero who's going to be Grace Poe's teammate,
Ate Vi could face a tough challenge and perhaps squeeze through only by the
skin of her teeth.
Now if the question is whether she can
convince the electorate to vote for Mar instead of Grace, then she would really
have to be a miracle worker. She may still retain her show biz charisma and
boast of a spotless political record as provincial governor, but we doubt if
she can do enough for him to get past Grace Poe and Jojo Binay in next year's
polls. –End-
