The
National Capital Region is the seat of government and the country's financial
and business hub. Thus, it should be a model of efficient law enforcement, so
that the safety and security of the citizenry can be assured at all times.
We
are glad to note that authorities are making headway in curbing criminality in
Metro Manila with the recent arrest of more than 400 suspected criminals.
The
National Capital Region Police Office launched “One Time, Big Time” (OTBT)
operations against syndicated crimes, loose firearms and illegal drugs last
week. This resulted in the arrest of 465 persons and confiscation of illegal
drugs and assorted drug paraphernalia.
The
police also confiscated 16 different calibers of firearms and 90 motorcycles
during the operations, along with five video karera machines, two handheld
radios, and one CCTV camera.
The
OTBT is part of the PNP's Oplan: Lambat-Sibat drive where all-out police operations
are simultaneously conducted against illegal drugs personalities, most wanted
persons, loose firearms and all other forms of crime.
Police
operations against criminals, to be successful, must involve community support.
Local government units and the public should be pro-active in reporting crime
to authorities so that immediate action can be taken.
The
intensified drive against crime is timely as we are now approaching the
Yuletide season. With criminals lurking in the streets, we must exercise utmost
vigilance and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police precinct or
barangay hall for immediate action. A vigilant citizenry is the best antidote
against crime.
