Some say that the Office of the Ombudsman’s investigation of Budget Secretary Florencio “Butch” Abad and his aide is all for show and that it would all end up with the Liberal Party (LP) stalwart being exonerated.
We’d like to give the Ombudsman the
benefit of the doubt as to the seriousness of its intent and effort to nail
down Abad for the filing of a graft or plunder case before the Sandiganbayan.
Likewise, the spotlight here does
not fall far away from Mar Roxas as the anointed presidential candidate of LP
with his avowed to “continue” and “expand” daang-matuwid (straight path) and
its anti-graft stance.
Roxas cannot clam up on this
investigation of the Ombudsman of Abad, ditto with the bombshell that a former
head of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) allegedly tried to facilitate the
release of smuggled sugar at the Bureau of Customs.
Roxas should speak up because the
administration whose hold on to power he would be trying to perpetuate for six
more years in the 2016 elections has time and again been accused of going hard
on opponents while treating allies with kid gloves.
In the next few months leading to
the election, Roxas would be confronted with the scandals that have rocked the
administration. He must have answers or he can kiss his presidential ambition
goodbye.
