An
insurance company claimed that Filipinos “value personal health” before citing
its survey results that disprove its general
assertion.
According
to the survey, 56 percent of Filipinos would rather rest on a couch than to
exercise which is slightly better than Hong Kong’s 58 percent and the Asian
average of 59 percent.
It
averred that 30 percent of Filipinos belong to the so-called Generation O or
individuals who are overworked, lack exercise and sleep.
So, did the figures support the claim that Pinoys “value personal health.” On the contrary, the figures tended to show that Pinoys may care little about their health.
Media
pronouncements by corporate entities based on “surveys” should be taken with a
grain of salt because oftentimes they are just “pegs” with which to segue
enticements to avail of their products or services.
Months
back, another firm, a seller of medical cards, came short of calling workers in
the Philippines’ call centers as alcoholics with nothing more than anecdotal
statements to back its claim.
Purportedly,
on the average a Filipino call center agent consumes four to six drinks a week.
The figure cited, of course, does not validate the claim of alcoholism because
spread out in a week, that’s not even one drink a day.
