Bayron’s signal victory

Three things may be deduced from the overwhelming victory posted by Puerto Princesa Mayor Lucilo Bayron in last Friday’s recall election, which saw him garner 44,299 votes.

No.1, that Bayron’s constituents approve of his fiscal reforms and campaign against criminality and that they want him to continue them until 2016 or even beyond.

No. 2, that former mayor Edward Hagedorn can now write kaput or finito to his political career or any of his delusional notions that he can come back fromretirementville.

And No. 3, that indeed, as pointed out by Bayron and concerned citizens of Puerto Princesa to a stubborn local election officer, that the recall petition filed by Hagedorn’s lackey Alroben Goh was a big sham.

Bayron being sustained by Puerto Princesa is a signal victory that should convince Hagedorn and any other mayor wannabe that they do not stand a chance against Bayron in the 2016 regular elections.

Sure, Bayron was being a statesman when he asked all sectors in Puerto Princesa to move on and help him further reduce the huge indebtedness which Hagedorn left the city with. Still, there should be accountability.

For one, taxpayers’ money had been wasted by Hagedorn and that local election officer in ramming that bogus recall petition and in holding an utterly unnecessary election. Proof that it was a sham petition is that it contained 40,409 signatures, while only 30,002 voted for Hagedorn.

What happened? Were the dead people, whose names were listed by Hagedorn and Goh in their recall petition, unable to claw back from their graves to vote for  Hagedorn?  -end-
